I love WormsDC - fire it up now and again but it is better playing it against proper human players than the computer.  My team was/is called "The Bobs", with team members Uncle Bob, Robert, Bob and Bobbie (the useless worm).

Hyperion have a licence to port Worms: Armageddon, but this has been put on hold, mostly due to OS4 I assume.  When it is released I imagine it will now be an OS4-only title.

A few points:

1. Don't make Worms downloadable unless you have permission from Team17

2. WormsDC also had the ability to create your own landscapes (randomly generated ones, as well as the IFF bitmap versions you could do in the original).  I don't think this has been possible in any of the PC versions.

3. Worms better on the PC???!  The graphics were worse, the sound was worse (IIRC).  Sorry, the Amiga version wins hands down.

4. Yes, I think you are right about A500 syndrome.  This is presumably the reason for WormsDC - to make a version of Worms without the restrictions of the A500

2. The orginal PC version allowed for custom random landscapes as well as hand drawn landscapes (in PCX format)  The main difference with the PC version was that you didn't have to wait for the landscapes to be drawn (they generated instantly)

Okay, didn't know that.  Probably it generating instantly is more down to the processor speed than anything else.

3. Erm I don't know how you get this, comparing the original versions of both Amiga and PC, the PC version was far supirior - 256 colour GFX compared with 32, CD soundtrack, extra game modes, better sounds (and seperate sets for different teams), landscape zooming. and backgrounds other than the mountains (which IIRC could be user defined). The gfx may look blockier on the PC, but that's only because they are displayed on a proper monitor rather than a TV.  Try playing worms via UAE in fullscreen and see how good it looks then.

Hmm... I admit I didn't pay too much attention to it (the original Worms for the Amiga had different backgrounds as well btw, WormsDC allowed you to customise them along with the landscapes), maybe it was just the low resolution and the monitor.  I have UAE on this machine so I might try what you suggest.[/quote]
