I met A4000_Mad when I bought an A4000 from him a few years ago. He wasn't a member at the time. I also met bloodline when I saw Radiohead at Victoria Park. Blimey, that was 2 and a half years ago 0_o

Yep, met Moto! That was great, lovely sunny day too, but also can't believe how long ago that was... :-/

Yep, was back in the beautiful summer of 2008 :-o

@spihunter, if you do end up over here, we could arrange a meet up (an drag Moto along as he is into Amiga, AROS and logic too) :)

I should warn you I don't really use Logic any more... but I'm open to persuasion ;)

So do you use BSL or Macaton or does Oz have it's own sign language system?

Funny and true story, I once tried learning sign language however after two lessons the teacher told me that due to my short, stubby fingers it was like I was speaking with a lisp.

FYI, Makaton is a sigh support system for people with difficulties understanding or using verbal language. It's not capable of replacing language due to the fact that it only really contains nouns, verbs and adjectives. So, you can sign "big yellow cup" or "more" to help a child to understand (or help themselves to express their needs) but you can't express more complex semantic or syntactic language.

@Cammy
Unfortunately I work with people all the time who don't understand how to communicate with people whose communication is different to their own. It's usually due to embarrassment at their own inability to adapt their own communication, or fear of making a mess of it. It's a shame because it reduces opportunities for both parties :(

I didn't realise it had that limitation, then again my only exposure to Makaton was with dealing with a friends autistic kids.

It's not really a limitation, more an indicator that they're completely different things. Sign languages are just that - whole languages which are manifest in sign rather than vocalised words. Makaton on the other hand is like a supplement to verbal languages which already exist. It isn's intended to exist or function as a language in its own right.

So your friend's autistic children might be having difficulty acquiring spoken language, maybe because their social communication difficulties don't allow them to attend to peoples' faces and the fleeting sounds coming out of them. Makaton attaches a visual support (the sign) to the word to provide a more accessible, (temporally) enduring representation of the concept which is easier for the child to learn to understand and use.

Well, it sounds to me that you did not pay enough on the shipping, so, Doomy did not ship the Amiga 2000 until you mailed him the needed funds for shipping.  I do not think that he had any intention of ripping you off, because you did get the Amiga 2000, but only after you mailed him the correct amount for shipping.  It sounds like you are very happy with your purchase.  So, why spread negative feedback about Doomy?  He did not do anything wrong.  I think that the guy is getting a bad rep for no good reason and many people here on Amiga Org think so too, but are afraid to speak up for fear of getting kicked off the forum.

Hans, you know full well you specify the shipping cost on the auction. To then refuse to ship until the buyer pays more is totally unethical.
