I have been having this problem, and apparently it's because the CF card is set to removable rather than fixed disk. Some cards, e.g. Sandisk, allow you to change this with a tool.

For Sandisk cards you apparently need atcfwchg.com and/or ndcfwchg.com. No idea where you would find them as I don't have any Sandisk cards. You could try Googling those filenames.
