"the netbooks" is an odd name. is the plural of it something like "those netbookses"? :-P
That does sound odd, but it's probably because of the use of a plural noun ("netbooks") with a singular verb ("was"), which is normally used for singular nouns or pronouns. As you say, this makes "netbooks" feel like a singular noun, which would require the addition of some other morpheme like "-es" to make it plural.
They should have written either "...the netbook which was recently unveiled..." or "... the netbooks which were recently unveiled..."
Also, no need to use the demonstrative determiner "those" as in "those netbookses"; the definite article "the" is acceptable for use with a plural noun, as in the case of "the netbookses".
