I'm downsizing my Amiga collection, so my A4000 parts are up for auction. The A4000 itself will be for sale soon, once I have taken the parts out permanently and taken photos.

but why? no more amigas?

My A4000 sits upstairs mostly unused. When I do use it, it's to play WHDLoad games or T-Zer0. It's all very well having a massively upgraded Amiga with a pretty Workbench, but what's the point when it's just used as a launcher for games?

So I have bought a NOS A1200 and a Blizzard 1230. Should be perfect for WHDLoad games and T-Zer0!

I might bid on an item or two.  I'm going to be in the UK from the 23rd Sep to 1st Oct, so if I win something you can send it to my cousin's address in Wales and I can take it back to the USA with me.  Saves on postage.  :-)

That's fine, but if you do win anything and want me to ship it to your cousin please PM me to let me know which item you bought. I usually only ship to the address the PayPal account is registered to, but will make an exception for established and trustworthy a.org members such as yourself.

Thanks.  I appreciate that.  I'm a tight git in these auctions though, so I doubt if I win, but I might help drive the price up a bit for you.  ;-)

Please do ;-)

oh yeah... the A1200_whdload route... done that too with a 1230/50 too...  :-D but I tinkered a little

I've seen your A1200. It's amazing! I'm going to keep this machine as stock as possible. I'm going to put a CF adapter on the internal IDE port with a 128MB card to boot the machine and run AGS and mount a PCMCIA CF reader with a 4GB card, which will contain all of the games :-D

I just hope T-Zer0 runs ok on a 1230...

Why not spoil yourself?

Keep that system just for WHDLoad games.

A couple of reasons really. I feel bad knowing that such a powerful Amiga is going to waste. Also, because of its size I can't have it downstairs, and I want a system downstairs so I can play in the lounge. Finally, I have a lot of money tied up in that system which I really can't justify.

WB runs so much faster with a 060 and the added desktop space thanks to GFX board makes it much easier to work on the system when suffling files around etc.

I won't be using Workbench ;-)

Think twice before selling it. I didnt two times before, so now Im on my third A4000 wich I hope I will never sell (because it is going to be so f'n expensive to buy it back to the state it is in if I would want a hi-end Amiga again)  :-)

Well it's too late now - the stuff is on eBay and I have already bought replacement gear ;-) But I have thought very hard about it, and I feel confident that I am making the right decision. I have got the "big-box-bug" out of my system and I no longer get a kick out of having one just for the sake of it. I want a compact, fun system that I will actually use, and for me the ideal machine for that is the A1200 with a 1230.

Hi Homer! AGS launches T-Zer0 with no memory problems, and it runs just as well on my 1230 as it did on my A4000 with my MKIII. It's an awesome game which is made even better by being able to play it on a large screen :-)

The only problem is that my A1200 doesn't have a CD-ROM so I don't get any audio. I wonder whether it would be possible to mount an ISO of the CD and have the game use that for the CD audio?

I'm surprised too. Maybe there is just less of this stuff around these days so people are prepared to pay more for it.

I think the topic of "value" comes up every time a high-value Amiga item is sold. We all know how supply and demand works, and that when demand is high but supply is low, prices go up. The people who are prepared (and able) to pay high prices do so, so prices are driven up. This is especially true in auction situations where the price is determined by the buyer(s).

dilemma
Must... pay off... credit card..........
Must... not... buy... Sam440 + OS4!!!!!
