Burning CD32 games
« on: January 22, 2008, 10:34:02 PM »
I've downloaded Zool 2 from Back2TheRoots, and Worms and Super Stardust from Dream17. When I burn Zool 2 or Worms I get errors that it has run out of data, and the audio tracks won't play. I got the same error in Disposable Hero (from B2R) but that seems to play ok. Also, Super Stardust doesn't seem to have anything to burn - although there is an ISO and MP3 audio tracks, the size of the burn once I load the CUE file is 0 bytes.

This was when burned using an app called "Burn" on my Mac. I tried CDRWin on a PC but for some reason my burner wasn't supported.

Any ideas?

I don't think CD32 games work in WinUAE. I will try PowerISO, and failing that mounting with Daemon tools is a good idea as I can then use WinImage to rip it back as an ISO, and hopefully burn on my Mac.

Cheers!

I think there's something wrong with the images. When I try to open the .cue files in PowerISO I get the error "File format is invalid or unsupported". Only one of them worked (Zool 2) but it didn't include the audio tracks. I will give Alcohol 120 a try - thanks Speel.

Alcohol 120% gives me a similar error about an unsupported format. I think it might be the MP3 audio tracks it doesn't like. I might try converting them to WAVs and see if that makes a difference.

Have just converted the MP3 tracks to WAVs, manually edited the cue sheet to make it use the WAVs, and Alcohol 120% actually attempted to burn the image. It failed saying "Invalid Field In Parameter List", but I was burning under Parallels on my Mac which might be why (the error came from the drive, not the software). So I'll try installing Alcohol 120% on a real PC and try again.

Same error from Alcohol 120 and Nero on a real PC, though Nero burned Zool 2 fine. Would somebody mind downloading Super Stardust from Dream17 and try burning it? I'm starting to think the image is corrupt.

I can burn the ISO without problems. But I want to burn using the cue sheet so I can include the audio tracks. It's a shame the games weren't dumped as an ISO only with the audio tracks inside it.

I suppose a workaround would be to recreate the original CD. Does anyone know how to create a CD using the contents and boot sector of an ISO as track 1 (data) and MP3s/WAVs as the remaining tracks (audio)?

I don't know whether the problem lies in the image, the cuesheet, or the way I'm burning it. I'll try re-creating the whole image using the guide Trev linked to above and see if I can create a working ISO. If so, I'll submit it to BTTR.

Actually Alien Breed, from Dream17, played fine when I burned it using Disk Utility on my Mac. I didn't try it on any Windows tools as it worked fine.

Speel, would you mind downloading Super Stardust from Dream17 and try to burn it?

@JurassicCamper
Thanks for the link! I am on the train at the moment but have just successfully burned Super Stardust to the Nero Image Recorder using the modified cue sheet. When I get home I'll test it with a CD and report back.

Thanks Speel.

I'm about to lose my temper with this. Although Nero will burn the fixed cue sheet to its virtual drive, it won't burn it to a CD (same error as before). I used Nero's virtual drive to convert the cue in to a .nrg. Nero wouldn't burn that to CD either (same error). Tried to burn the .nrg with Alcohol 120% and it burned succesfully, but the game wouldn't boot even though I could see the data on there and also the audio tracks. Tried to burn the fixed cue sheet in Alcohol 120% and got some error. Tried to burn the fixed cue sheet in Fireburner. Appeared to write and complete succesfully but the disc was still blank!

This is ridiculous. Does anyone have a copy of this game?

I have located a torrent for this game and the info on it says it will burn in DAO/Raw mode. Once it finishes downloading I will test burning it. Regarding the audio tracks causing the problem, I did try converting them to WAV but this made no difference. The copy I am downloading is over 400MB in size compressed, so it looks like the audio is already in WAV format.

Ooooh alternative copy of SSD has finished downloading and is burning as we speak! Similar to the Dream17 version it's an ISO, several audio files and a cue sheet. The audio files are WAVs. Nero started burning the disc immediately with no complaints. Will report back in a few minutes once it has finished and I've tested it.

Hmm, disc burned ok but wouldn't boot on the CD32. Anyone know what is the difference between disc-at-once and disc-at-once/96?

[EDIT]
Never mind, dao/96 doesn't work anyway (get the original error again). About to try Alcohol 120%.
[/EDIT]
