Doomy's rendition of "Only Amiga" on YouTube - since he will undoubtedly remove it once he reads the thread here!
Link

And the original is pretty funny too!

I love it when you see the band recording the song in the studio. They must have felt so lame recording that song

I wonder who they are? They look well in to it when you see them recording that song. My favourite part is when you see all the backing singers together doing the "oo-oo" in the second chorus (just after you see the Newton's cradle). The faces and the finger-pointing are sooooo cheesy!

6000 posts BTW ;-) :pint:

Problem is that the speakers are in front of me. If they were behind me then I would have the perception of running away from the crap music which would probably make me do better  Though I broke my own record of 4 km in 20 minutes yesterday

Interesting - I had no idea ASDs affected coordination to that extent. I've got some lectures on ASD next week, so hopefully then I'll understand better :-)

AFAIK gross motor functions like walking and fine motor functions like soldering are controlled by different parts of the brain. They are coordinated by the cerebellum, but by physically different parts of it. So perhaps ASDs like Asperger's affect only the part which is responsible for gross motor movements.

One other possibility is the automaticity of the action. Generally walking is an unconscious behaviour (apart from the conscious will to walk from one place to another you don't have to think about putting one foot in front of the other). Soldering on the other hand requires high levels of concentration. You have already said that if you concentrate hard on walking then your motor control improves. So perhaps ASDs affect unconscious, automatic movements more than conscious movements requiring high levels of concentration, and making unconscious movements conscious by concentrating them "bypasses" this effect.

Do you think that Autism offers you any advantage in linguistic learning? I wish I was better at learning languages :-(

Disclaimer: wild guess and generalisation follows. Speel, please don't take this as an attempt to answer for you or make any claim about you personally :-)

ASDs affect language on many levels, both expressive and receptive. The problem for the autistic language learner is that it can sometimes be difficult to discriminate particular features of language, such as prosody, and also to discriminate what is significant and what is superfluous. However, people with Asperger's typically don't show any significant language delay, so my guess would be that their tendency to be extremely intelligent cancels out any language processing problems.

I don't know what implications this would have for second language acquisition though.
