How does the latest AROS compare to a fresh install of Amiga OS 3.1 or 3.9? Is it as usable out of the 'box' please?

I would say that the out of the box usability of AROS is much better than that of OS3.x
I remember that OS3.1 came with almost no programs and NO third party library like mui.

AROS is different. Even the nightly builds comes with tons of extra software, like some archivers, games and lots of librarys, MUI classes, Software development tools, etc.

If you choose to install a Distribution like ICAROS, then you will already have most of the Software that is available for AROS.

There is also aeros in development, which runs atop linux so it should work on almost all x86 computers to throw it on. It will also let you run linux programs. I think thats fantastic, and I can't wait to see this one working.

+1

I have an acer Notebook waiting for this as well.
I believe that if it comes as a live cd and a decent Installer to put it on a Harddrive, it may become the standard consumer Distribution of AROS, as it will run on almost any Hardware out there.
