The capacitors could leak, or even blow, if they polarity is reversed. That would be a design problem. It exists in
the audio circut but I don't know about any other circuit with that problem.
Also, electrolytic caps do dry out after some years.
I use a 22 year old Mitsubishi amplifier (back from the days
when their amps were good and high quality) which I almost
fried that way... The 6000mF caps were down to... 1800mF...
The power supplied to the transistors was... a sinewave...
