Having done some of this here's my suggestions:

Use NetBSD instead of Linux. For some un-explainable reason, I do prefer NetBSD (feels faster, smaller footprint).

Apache is easy to install either via a precompiled binary or you could compile it yourself using some optimizations for your cpu.

Install more mem if you're serious about it. 64M is ok.

Serving static pages is fast enough even on the 030. Using PHP and Mysql I think you'll find that you'll need a faster cpu.

Check this out: http://loraine.amigahellas.gr/ . It is running on a 030 A1200. The slowness is due to the slow link.
Anyway is the only way

Hi kvasarnomad

yes, even though there is an FPU emulator, you do need an FPU to setup(use?) NetBSD. Had the same problem myself without it.

I'm not sure though if things got better in this part with NetBSD 2.0.

@leirbag28:

Well, check the fluxbox site's screenshots, my desktop looks a bit like that (only more simple I should add) + a couple of xterms, nedit, xchat and dillo ;-)

The closest right now would be:
http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=457

When my 060 finds some cycles to spare from other compiles, I will try to compile ImageMagick for a screenshot.

As Failure said it, it's the geek factor plus the sheer excitment that with NetBSD/Amiga you can really start and learn how a unix system works (as in it is much simpler/cleaner than linux). You can take a look at sources for drivers, the xserver, etc.

Right now, I'm truly sad that I have a 060 in my miggy, I really *must* get another for AMIX! ;-)
