I have, but it was related to my job, so the patent wasn't mine even though I was the 'inventor'. The complete process is long and expensive, but the starting point is fairly painless. I suggest to read up the information provided  here.

I don't want to discourage you, but I think a patent must be demonstrable. If a non-existant technology is required to demonstrate it, that in itself would be patentable. Certainly get advice from the Patent Office before you start spending money on 'agents'.
