« on: February 02, 2009, 12:09:44 PM »
I'm looking for an A4000 for basic use.
Do you guys think this is a good deal?

eBay A4000D 030/040 Average = €235. So at €449 the item is €214 over priced!

But this one comes with a Blizzard 4030, kickrom 3.1 and a HD diskdrive. Also for me is the clock-battery very important. I have bought several A4000's in the past, to find out that they had all leaky batteries. The other auctions are very vague about the state of the battery or they have kickrom 3.0 or DD diskdrive's.
And only last week there was a similar A4000/030 sold for 450 euro's. So I'm very tempted to buy this one. It's in really good shape.   :-)

And some of the ones listed have A3640's, Buddha IDE controllers, Catweasel's and monitors.

I don't need buddha's or catweazels...like I said: It's only for basic use. And I have allready 3 monitors standing in the way.

Some have photos showing the battery removed and all is nice and clean.

Yes indeed...some of them. But the majority of A4000's have leaky batteries and yes, I've asked the sellers for some clear pics. Most of them didn't reply or didn't show a picture, so you know there's something wrong with the battery. At least, that's my experience in the past.
This guy shows clear pics, so you know what you buy.

A stock A4000D with a DD disk drive?? Not come across one yet.

Some sellers swap the HD diskdrive with a DD they pulled out of an old A2000/A3000 and put on another faceplate and eject button for use in the A4000.
I know, because I've bought one in the past and it also had a leaky batterie wich had caused major damage to the mainboard, resulting in a system that didn't recognized the clock anymore and freaky mouse movements.
I've learned to be very cautios if it comes to buying things on ebay.   :rtfm:

But 2x average price? I don't think so.

I wouldn't call this A4000 "average", especially with the Blizzard 4030/50mhz, clean undamaged mobo with new battery, 3.1 roms, HD diskdrive and not yellowed.
"Average" A4000's on ebay are frequently with battery damage and/or are incomplete/modified and/or 3.0 roms and/or DD diskdrives and/or yellowed etc...

So you guys think it's a little bit overpriced?
Well, I'm sure that the current exchange rates
has something to do with that. The US$/BP are
very low compared with the EU€. In the US and
GB this A4000 is more expensive then in Europe.
