Hey Buddy, can you lend a hand?
« on: August 08, 2003, 04:16:09 PM »
OK, I confess. I’m cheap and not a techie. So, I down loaded the free version of WinUAE and tried to install it. Well, right away I knew I was over my head. Is there anyone willing to take me by the hand and walk me through the install or at least point me in the right direction. I can read, so even an internet site with step-by-step instructions would do. (Yeah, I know, creative people don’t read the instructions.) ;-)

What happened when you tried to install?  If you're more specific, we should be able to help (the really annoying bit is copying ROMs etc across :-) )

Well, I recall a window opening up asking for paramerters to run it and I just didn't understand what the settings ment.

I have OS 2.05 and an A500. ( I used to have an A2000, but someone stole it. Imagine that!)

You need KickStart ROM images at the very minimum if you want to play games, preferably KS1.3. Since you only have a machine with KS2.05 you will need to follow the instructions to rip your rom image and transfer it to the PC. If you want to use a modern Workbench then you are missing a whole bunch of stuff and I would recomend AmigaForever, at least the cheap download version.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks

The first thing to do then is to copy those across.  IIRC WinUAE comes with an Amiga utility for copying the ROM - ask people here.  For the WB, an easier way would be to use Disk2FDI - do you have two disk drives installed in the PC?

Ha, ha, ha... Two disk drives in a PC? Are you kiddidng? I have two for my A500. I should have four. But all the software for PC's is on CD's. Who needs a disk drive let alone two (i.e. the IMac). I take it that this means I will have to do some disk swapping. Hey, been doing that for years. ;-)
