Name that Tune! (PLEASE!)
« on: June 07, 2007, 08:58:39 PM »
Back in the late 90's/early 00's there was a song that I heard occationally.  It was, I guess, best described as an Electronica tune.  It was fairly downbeat and sparse.

There was a single female vocal that sang "I know, I know I can count on you".  It could possibly be Candi Staton, it was very similar.

At this point most people mention one of the numerous remixes of "You got the love" by The Source.  It definately wasn't that.

I honestly can't remember when this was, it's so long ago now.  But every now and then the song come back to me and I can't stop thinking about it.  Tonight is one of those times.

Can anyone help?  It's driving me nuts again

You mean "Your Love" by Jamie Principle.  Sorry pet hate of mine that "Your Love" with an acapella gets credited as an orignal work by The Source all the time.

I was talking about the '97 version of "You got the Love" which is nothing like "Your Love".  I can see why you would get pissed off though, the other version is a blatent rip-off ala Timbaland.

Anyway, the tune you are after is......... (Gimme a few mins to get "Your Love" out of my head.)  Plus, there have been many tunes with that "I Know" vocal though I am sure the one you mean is a garage tune. (Proper US Garage, not that horrible London crap)

edit:

"I Know" by New Atlantic, a proper full on hands in the air piano anthem!

That is definately the sample, but not the tune itself.  Although from what I heard, it appeals to the wannabe raver in me (I wasn't even in secondary school by the time the scene collapsed).

Feck me, I thought that dirge was bad.  Is the 1999 "Remix" the one you had in mind?  "Trance" my great big hairy arse! Yuk!

That's not the one, although it's highly likely to be one of the others on that release.  Like I said, it was a fairly sparse and downtempo.  And it was definately free of all that Pete Tong gimmicky dance fluff.

At least I have a starting point now.  There is a chance that the version I'm after was realeased on a compilation album.  Thanks for the help.
