I could have sworn that AROS was the first to support dual PNG icons.

I just double checked.  I'm not going mad (well not in this regard anyway ;-)), a quick google has many references to AROS style dual PNG icons from a while back.

I guess these icons are in a slightly different format which is why they are only working now.
