Here's what you do (based on your Dialogue of Plato):

Put the sunstone on the spindle, put the setting sun at the top by the horns, push the spindle, open the door WITHOUT removing the sunstone, pick up the statue, close the door and then pick up the sunstone.

Although, it may not be a statue.. but there's something in there that can be picked up anyway
