God I hate that!!
A few years ago a local cable company in Malta did the same thing when they moved. Trashed quite a few Amiga's. I think they had A2000's, A3000's and A4000's

I actually remember a few times back in the 1990's seeing the Workbench 2 screen on TV, probably after a crash or something while on the info/weather channel.
The local electronics recycling center sucks too. I've been there before and saw loads of things that could be rescued like G3 and G4 iMacs, old CRT Apple Cinema displays and lots of other stuff. I think I even saw a BBC Micro or Acorn there.
I've asked more than once, even by email and phone if I can have permission to take stuff for personal use (not re-sale) but they are like once it goes in there it aint going out.
