I think you are right. It is too much work as the traces of the xbox 360 unlike Amiga 500 ones (which i had some sucess repairing) are very very tiny and very close to each other.
I think my best bet is buying an Xbox 360 motherboard (+ drive key to spoof on my current dvd drive) which has the RROD (3 red lights) from ebay (They go really really cheap) and then attempt to fix the RROD problem. I've successfully managed to fix every RROD xbox 360 i tried fixing till now, so its worth the risk and def much much less work than fixing the damaged trace.
