Flicker fixing using RGB monitor
« on: May 25, 2009, 01:15:43 PM »
Is there a good software flickerfixer or cheap hardware flickerfixer which i could use on the A1200 which is connected to my RGB monitor ?

I have OS3.9 and im using a high resolution which is giving flicker .

Upon advice from A.org forums i am using MagicTV (Software flickerfixer) @ 16 colors .

It works great , but i would love to use 256 colors , remain flicker free at high resolutions using my 1084-S and at the same time i cannot afford (right now) to buy the high quality and feature packed Indivision AGA .

Yeah MagicTV works amazingly ... I run OS3.9 on a high resolution using my 1084-S and there is almost 0% flicker . everything looks great , but of course my limitation to remain flicker free is that i cant go beyond 16 colors .

Workbench looks great at 16 color , but i have to sacrifice having a picture background and JPEGS look horrible in 16 color mode .

What would be great would be a MagicTV which supports 256 colors ... There i go dreaming again .. LOL

You could of course use a PC monitor and use VGA monitor definition. That would give you 256 colours. You'll need a 23-pin to 15 pin adapter dongle. Of course this is workbench only, games would not work.

Yeah i have one of those ... Not really good for me though because i do indeed play games on my Amiga ...

Recently ive been using my Amiga much more than the xbox 360 for games :)

Yes, something like this, i think. It doesn't actually reduce flicker, it makes it less perceivable.
I wonder if there's a good reason behind this 16 colors limitation...

Interesting. I have 2 questions about it:
Is this dongle considered an Amiga specific adapter?
Why it doesn't work with games? Because they work at 15khz horizontal frequency and VGA monitors can't handle it or is it something else? If this is the issue, aren't there any special VGA monitors that can handle this frequency?

Yes i think there are some Multisync monitors , but they aren't so common which is a shame ..

Another option could be using an LCD TV (like 15 or 17 inch) which has a SCART input .

I've never tried it , but i would imagine that with that and an Amiga RGB to Scart cable , it would work . I dont know about flicker etc.. though . All i can say is that i have used my A500 using an RGBtoScart cable connected to my 32" Toshiba Regza and it worked well .
