Hi guyz!
I just got nullmodem serial cable for my Amiga. Some guys said me, that model I bought will work. (It's this one: http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/product/3549/ntr ) But I instantly got an problem, when I tried to transfer anything to my Amiga. I have tried Amiga Explorer and ADF Sender Terminal. I have set the serial settings correctly and so, but I cannot get the "**BREAK" message, when you need to press CTRL+C. I have tried everything...
I am now using my old Win98 pc to transfer files, because it has an serial port (actually 2 of them).
Thanks

-Eemil

Let's step back a minute, and make sure the ports are working, properly selected, etc on both the amiga and the PC.

If you can, run some terminals software on both the amiga and the pc, and make sure that you can type some characters back and forth.

I think I use that EXACT SAME dual-headed cable to move stuff between my amiga and pc, so the cable is likely right.

I used amiga explorer awhile ago, but never used the sender terminal in question.  I would test the fundamentals first and make sure they work.  This will prove out the cable, the ports on both machines, and the right COM port is selected.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for fast answers!
I just tested Serial port 2, and guess what, it didn't work at all! It even didn't want to start transfer the data. And it's not surprise if serial ports are broken because I got that computer totally free :D

So the next thing is to get a new computer or to get USB to serial converter to my laptop?

-Eemil

I'm not surprised.

Most new computers do *not* come with serial ports.

I would suggest getting a USB to serial converter.  I've been extremely happy with the converters that are based on FTDI's chips -- their drivers are certified, and work well.

Based on the link you posted, which I was think was Finnish, I'm sure you have some different local suppliers than in the US.  I'm sure we could find a local source for one if you have trouble.

Good luck.

USB came to XP via SP1 AFAIR.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you here.

Windows 95 OSR2 had support for USB. All subsequent versions supported it directly?
