2.1GB Scsi Hard Drive install on A3000D - Revisted
« on: November 29, 2005, 05:26:48 PM »
2nd Hard Drive install on ks2.04 WB 2.05 A3000D  that has one original 40meg Quantum already installed (No CDRom).

First attempt with a used "Silicon Graphics 2.1 Quantum HD" failed since Drive turned out to be Dead.

Now looking at second attempt with a used (but believed to be good) HP 0950-2606 2.1GB SCSI HARD DRIVE. It is a Model VP32210 Quantum.

I believe it is already formated for either windows/dos or maybe unix.

The question is, am I best leaving the 40meg quantum(jumper id6) in and formatting the VP32210 Quantum as secondary drive (and change its id jumper to 3) or am I better off removing 40meg and installing/formatting the 2.1GB as primary & putting fresh install of WB2.05 etc. on it?

Any other advice regarding this would be appreciated. Yes, I may eventually get Amiga3.5 system and put on, but for now 2.05 is all I have to work with.  I do have the orginal 2.05 wb and some backup software to work with.

Oh, I do have a WinXP machine with a scsi card, but have not tried the new/used 2.1gb drive on it.

Lastly, I may be going about some my goals in this the long way, but the nostalgia is great, right?  I thought about getting a catweasel for pc to read all my old disks (I still might do that) and put the stuff that I want on my winxp using Winuae, but again, nothing like the experience with the old trusty Amy silicon

Thanks again,
Larry :-D
