Mediator "can't open pci.library"
« on: October 23, 2005, 12:14:34 PM »
I've installed a Mediator 1200 SX but haven't put any PCI cards in the slots yet (still awaiting delivery of Voodoo 3000). I've registered with Elbox and received the latest System and Multimedia software. I've installed both on 3.9, but when I run pciinfo it tells me it can't open pci.library. Is this because there are no cards in the slots, or have I missed something out when installing?

I should add that in the early startup screen there are three expansion cards showing, one of which is presumably my Blizzard and another the Mediator. I have no idea what the third could be.

Thanks

Thanks a4k1. That would explain why pciinfo doesn't work. I'm having another problem where the machine won't boot if I copy 68040.library to libs:. I'm now assuming that this is because if 68040.lib is there then the mediator tries to initialise, but can't because there's no gfx card. I guess once I have a gfx card in the med I can cope 040.lib and still boot???

Hi Thomas

It's definitely a 68040. I checked by looking at the chip on the accelerator. It's a fresh install of 3.9 without the Mediator software installed.

I downloaded 68040.library from Aminet, which I assume is the latest version. The machine still crashes on boot (flashing power LED). I then disconnected the Mediator and connected the accellerator directly to the expansion slot and the same thing happened. I deleted the library and the machine booted ok.

I didn't delete the library in the first place, it was never installed when I installed 3.9. The booting problems started when I copied the library from the floppy disk that came with the accellerator in an attempt to get the Mediator working.

What could be wrong?  :-(
