C=64 Pro64/MSSIAH
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:49:21 PM »
Not quite Amiga, but...

MSSIAH should be out reasonably soon now. Anyone ordered?

I still can't decide whether to buy or not. I think it is really cool, wringing that use out of the C=64 with some clever engineering, and the sounds can be pretty decent with the right mods. I also think the price is reasonable, for the work effort and likely returns it will yield. Still the money could probably go a bit further into some other music gear.

As a side note, I remember some time ago when members here were buying Pro64's; so who has some music to share? What have your experiences been like, composing on the C=64? Do you think a functioning MIDI interface will be a big improvement?

Oli

Hi impactor,

Sorry, I should have included a link. I haven't been on A.org much recently, but I thought a few people here were monitoring this one already.

The MSSIAH can be used with a twin sid setup, and will have MIDI interface standard (i think?).

There are quite a number of people doing mods now. I like this page for an expo. People add mini playstation LCD screens as well.

I think it also shouldn't be too difficult to hack together an extension of the MIDI interface to control the custom mods.

I have an MB-6582 in the making, so am pretty well covered for SID sounds as well. I still like the Pro64/MSSIAH concept. I generally like raw electronic sounds, so it has some appeal on that front. Still, the money could definitely be used elsewhere.

Oli

-edit: OK, at least some people here were monitoring it. The pre-sales have closed, but I expect there will still be some available. There have also been previous threads on this topic, from around the time MSSIAH was anounced.

I'm confused!

Hey! I was confused first!

On a not very related note, I was looking up a few details on the energyXT sequencer which I own and potentially use, when i found someone using an Atari algorithmic composer called Tunesmith on an emulator, with MIDI loopback to soft synths. Does anyone know this prog? Early version was on C=64. I might have a play with it some time. I've always been curious about this sort of thing. Apparently Jan Hammer used to use it a bit (I'm not a fan, btw).

I just got my email a few days back, inviting me to place an order. It's not the best timing, in terms of the exchange rate I'm getting. I might wait a few days yet. Hopefully the Aussie dollar will bounce back.

Otherwise, there are so many other great uses for the money.

Have to wait and see...

edit- Actually just looked at the photos then, for the first time. They have done a neet job shoe-horning the MIDI interface into the cartridge. Unfortunately, if I buy one, I would be modding the MIDI interface. I would probably just fit the cartridge and C=64 PCB together, into a new case, with my MIDI hackery included as well.
