Holy CR@P, LASIK at home? Never would have thought that would be licensable.

I did a laser safety course for a research project with a biomedical imaging laboratory. I heard some horror stories of two people being blinded from LASIK, at our local Lion's Eye Institute.

The laser technician ignored safety procedures, and didn't maintain his equipment correctly. A hinge pin had dropped out of an actuator member, and the laser remained in its initial position and aperture for the entire procedures. Meanwhile, the technician was not even in the room.

One patient had one eye completely blinded, and the other patient had both eyes completely blinded. The same technician was responsible for both patients' treatments. he first incident was hushed up, with an out of court settlement, and the second incident went to a civil suit, and recieved quiet publicity in some papers.

Personally, I would still LOVE to have good eyesight. I hate wearing glasses. They cost a lot, long term, they get dirty, bent, scratched, slip off my oily skinned nose, and stress the eyes. They look poor, and are generally a right pain. My long oily haired eyebrows are constantly dirtying my lenses. Ahhh, just don't like glasses, and there are other reasons I can't wear contacts. I would still like to get LASIK done, despite the risks.

edit- OK, that was pretty stupid of me; I fell for a hoax. It seems the lsaik@home is just a joke. I do like the "don't blink" t-shirts though.
Good good study, day day up!
