Amiga related adventure in the SF Bay Area
« on: January 15, 2007, 01:47:56 AM »
Something interesting has popped up that might be kind of interesting, possibly an adventure. :-)

There's a post on Craigslist from someone giving an Amiga away on the peninsula. I called the number and managed to reach him. He's got an Amiga that he's giving away and its sitting in a box, waiting for someone to come and take it. The fun part is, he doesn't know what model it is. Someone gave it to him some years back, he played with it for a couple of days, and the Commodore monitor that came with it went bust. So its been sitting in his garage along with Tandys, AT's, and other antiques. All he could tell me was that its a box type with a keyboard. So, somehow, I'll try to get out there. If you look at a map, I'm in Oakland. Right now, I don't have a car, and doubt i'll be able to borrow one. But there is a dolly in the office, and recently, the area light rail has been extended near his town. So what's awaiting? An A1000, A2000, A3000? Or the motherload an A4000?    I think I'll walk it. Its a little cold, but its a free Amiga! At least its not 1000 km!

You!!! You!!!

Lucky {bleep}!  :-)  :-x

I called him this afternoon and said you came by in the morning and took it. Yesterday, I would have had to use BART and SamTrans to get there. By the time I reached him, the bus was going to stop running in an hour, so I hoped that there was going to be a pickup in the Penninsula today, which happened, except, what you did. Oh well.

Which model was it, by the way? The guy giving it away didn't know.

My, if I had the room, I might have tried the Trash80. Learned a little BASIC on them in high school.

I know about those hills, I've done pickups up in that area. Good thing you were on the ball. Climbing up them with a dolly would be murder!

Just an A1000, huh? Not too bad. That was my first Amiga, gotten out in the backwoods of Maine by a country and western singer.

Thanks for the offer of a monitor. Mine is starting to have problems, although thanks to the A3000's VGA port, I'm using a borrowed flat screen.

Since you're in Silicon Valley, be sure to go by Weird Stuff Warehouse over by Yahoo! HQ. I've listed it in the recomended retailer section. Commodore stuff shows up there from time to time.

A boxed A500 was there last time I visited, and I even saw an A2000 with Toaster once.
