4MB SRAM PCMCIA cards?
« on: April 06, 2010, 01:50:16 AM »
Well as I had a thread a while back I talked about my 2MB SRAM card I bought, I have now toyed a bit with it and alot of WHDLoad games on many disks do not start with 2MB chip and 2MB fast. (im using a Amiga 600)

So I put my CF card in my x86 PC and loaded it in winUAE as a harddrive and saw that if I just put SRAM up to 4MB most games works flawlessly!

So my question is if there is any place to get a hold of a 4MB SRAM PCMCIA card?

If im not wrong there are 6MB cards also?

Anyone know a dealer who ships worldwide or in Europe?

As I do not know prices of them im willing to pay about 60-80€ (85-115USD) for a 4-6MB card.

Thanks in advance. //som99

Did any of the games that wouldn't work on the 600 with 2MB+2MB of RAM work on the PC set up with a 2MB+2MB configuration?

Nope they did not run on a PC setup with 2MB+2MB either, but when I added 2MB more Fastram most games worked, tho a rare few needed 6-8MB FastRam.

Arabian Nights refuse to work even tho it's only a 2 disk game with less then 2+4, also Monkey Island 2 only runs at 2+4, Most Alien Breed games do not run with less then 2+4 also :(

I'ts a pain not beeing able to play Monkey island 2 :/

Thanks for your reply BTW :)

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a 4MB SRAM PCMCIA card?

On the games that refuses to run because of lack of enough FAST RAM, simply edit the icon "properties" (in Amiga we call it "information") and put a semicolon before the "PRELOAD" option.

 Expect to see a "slide show" while the games load, but they will work.

 Don't know how? Easy:

 - left-click once in the game icon;
 - hold the right Amiga key (on the right of the space bar) & then press the "i" key;
 - On the opened window, click on the PRELOAD option;
 - On the under space put a semicolon before the PRELOAD word;
 - Press on the return (enter) key;
 - Press on "save" button;

 -Test the game again.

 If you don't like the screen blinking, buy a 4Mb SRAM card, but they are expensive as hell.

 You'll find them very often in Ebay auctions and even on Amibay (cheaper and only "Buy-it-now"), but they are rare. Also I found those in various other sites around the internet.

Thank you, Ill give that a go :D Nice of you to explain how to do it also :)

Also @Matt_H Should I buy a card with or without 8K ATTRIBUTE on this page?

Thanks a bunch, I love this community!

Edit: Hmm Preload off, Monkey island 2 starts, i get the lamo copy protection, then the intro where Guy hangs on a rope and talks to Elaine, then it just goes black after that, Might it be a problem not using Preload when it's a game on many disks?

Also I can not get Moonstone to run however I do :S it just freezes the Amiga when I try to load it, with or without preload, I do not even get the blue little box telling me who did the installer (I got a full version of WHDLoad ofc) but when I put  my CF card in my PC and load it up and put 2 megs more FastRam both Monkey madness and Moonstone load without any problem :(

I'm almost positive Monkey Island was one of the games I played on my A1200 with a 2M SRAM card.  I'll check when I get home...

No, as I think about it.  I am positive...  It works on my A1200 with just a 2M SRAM PCMCIA..

I'll check the info settings when I get home.

Thanks man, tho try Monkey Island 2 Le Chucks revenge, monkey island 1 works but not number two :(
I know the game has its own installer but my original floppydisks are broken, both disk 2 and 7 :( the years has taken its toll on them... Thats why I have a WHDLoad version.

Also I tried to download and use TSGUI to replace the broken disks but none of them are the same version as mine so I cant get it to work :(

Cool :-) -The files were from a pre installed WHDload version and cracked using the Amiga Patch List -So just enter anything at the code screen.

Big thanks, Now one of my favorite games works!

Tho I still can't play Moonstone! Its only 3 disks and I can run some games that are more disks :(

Moonstone is for registered WHD users only, Have you tried removing Preload.

Hehe I am ofcource a registred user, something like WHDLoad is mandatory for me to support, it's alot of work behind it and it deserves to be supported :)

This is strange, I just replaced the WHDLoad files again and now it works with preload :O

Edit: sorry it's not working :/ After the intro I get a black screen :(

Simplisticly speaking a program for Amiga that allows you run run nearly all Amiga games from harddrive instead of Floppies :)

It's fantastic to not have to change floppies and have long load times, instead you just start the game from Workbench and you are all set :) You even can return to WB from most of the games :)
