I have a DKB Kwikstart board in my 1000. It lets me use a Kickstart ROM from a 500/2000 - actually two of them switching between versions if needed. It's a more "invasive" install, requiring wires on the daughterboard, and some PAL chip replacements. I think there's a hack on AMINET to install a single ROM.
