i have a 2091 board with 030 processor can i replace that with an 040 processor?

eh? the 2091 is a hard drive controller. There's no 68030 on it. If you meant "can I replace the 68030 sccelerator board with an '040 and still use the 2091?" That's another question.

I looked at my service notes, and the last entry for the 2091 says the rev 7.0 firmware upgrade adds '68040 support', among other features. Whether that means ir allows the use of an '040 at all or just enables some special '040 stuff, it doesn't make clear.
