Screwball scramble, King Kong, etc...
« on: June 07, 2009, 08:19:02 PM »
When I was young I had 3 games, all (I think) made by Tomy.  They all had a ball-bearing that you had to guide over various obsticles by pressing buttons at the right time.  I'm trying to find all 3, but I've forgotten the exact names of 2 of them.

The first one is Screwball Scramble which I've found on the net. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEOLz_z6MQI)

The next one is called something like King Kong, Big Kong or Kong.  It was about 12 inches wide, 6 inches deep and 2 feet high.  The metal ball started at the bottom and worked its way up the front wall of the game.  There were bridges, magnetic things to "carry" the ball upwards, some tunnels that went inside the game.

The last one is about 6 inches wide, 2 inches high, 8 inches deep, it was made of yellow plastic.  It was called something like "Aaarggghhhh" but I don't know how many occurence of each letter there was (you can imagine searching for this word on google doesn't get me far).  There were 6 metal ball bearings that were much smaller than the other games.  The difference between this and the other 2 is that all the game is covered in by perspex so you can't touch the balls.  There were bridges, and traps and rotating wheels.  There was one button which operated every moving part in the game.  This was very tricky.

Can anyone help me find a link with a picture and information about these 2 games?

I remember Screwball Scramble. It was great! I'm glad you can still buy it. Is it identical to the original?

I saw it in a shop last week and it was only £10 (new)!  It looks the same molding as the original too.

The second game you are talking about is Kongman. I had that too as a child and loved it. If you Google it, make sure you spell it as one word otherwise you won't find it.

The third one rings a bell but I can't quite picture it or remember its name. Not sure I ever actually had that one as a kid.

Hope that helps with Kongman, and thanks for bringing back some memories :)

Ah ha!  It was easy to find when I searched for "Kongman".  It loved it when I was young too - I think it was the fact that the ball defied gravity and went up the wall that made it a bit more interesting to my young mind than Screwball.

I also found an identical, but Sonic the Hedgehog themed version of Kongman.  Check this out:
http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2008/05/ebay-find-of-day-sonic-mountain-quest.html (site contains swearing and rude words so NSFW).

Anyway, thanks very much for that, happy memories for me too :-)

@crawff & @motorollin

Thanks guys!  I've spent ages searching for this and didn't even get a sniff!  The game was also called Tricky Traps and searching for Tomy Tricky Traps on youtube even brings back a few vids of it.  Marvellous :-)
