Actually, Red uses a time portal to get his NOS that he sells today.

Doing something medieval today would be practicing something that is no longer done thus out of its normal time period.

Yes, both of your thoughs apply. We don't use weaponized crowbars, but rattan staves of at least 1.25 inches.
