My PSU is dying.
« on: April 13, 2004, 10:24:14 AM »
I'm having an acute problem here and need some advice.

The PSU in my old A4000D is "dying", at least that's how it sounds. It works just fine but the fan sounds like an entire sawmill so I guess it will break down completely soon enough.

It's been going up and down in speed a lot lately and now the last 2 days it's been making extreme noises so I wanna try and do something about it.

I don't know if it's possible to repair it and replacing the fan is probably not the easiest task, with finding a suitable fan.

What kind of PSU is it possible to put in there that doesn't use more space? Where might I find an original A4kD PSU? Preferably in Sweden or close by?

Any tips, hints?

I'm going nuts at the sounds here.....

I think it's better to try and replace it instead of just oiling it up. I'll have to replace it sooner or later anyway.

Ok, so it's just a standard sized fan. I guess I'll have to open it up and check. I am a bit worried since the fan NEEDS to work. It overheats very quickly otherwise and the CV64/3D is the first to show it.
