I tracked the problem down to the power supply. The PS was putting out close to normal voltages according to the simple MM test, but there was no +5V on PG. I ordered a replacement PS from Vesalia (EU 220V) and bench tested with a 110V - 220V step up transformer, the 3000T came right up.

Next step is to convert it from EU 220V to 110V US.

It's easy to do. I did it a couple of years ago when my A3000T supply died. Order the 220V EU supply just like you did. If i remember right (and I'm sure I don't) there was one jumper wire to change and one of the input wires had to move to a different tap. It clear what has to be done once you open up the supply.

Sort of. I did that and I get what appears to be good voltages, but no +5V on PG (Power good, or Fail). It works fine as a 220V, but no PG as a 110V.

OK, found the before pictures I took when I did my surgery back in 2005. Can't find the after pictures I took. Let me open up the supply and see what all was changed and I'll post some photos. Should be able to get this done tonight.

I've approved the photos you uploaded.

One question. In the first couple photos, you mean add a wire between these points, right? THAT would make a lot of sense, I was missing a step altogether. Your last photo with the question marks. That does not need moved, it is like that in US an EU, no need to move anything.

You sir are a bad ass  :-D All bow to the mighty mdivancic

Photo A & Photo B show where the jumper goes (Sorry I uploaded the "A" photo twice).  So yes, add a wire. I had to take the step down transformer board out to add the jumper.

Photo A

Photo B

I guess you already figured out before I posted that you had to move the wire in Photo "C"?

Photo C

Ok, Photo "D" is the big mistery? I sounds like there is nothing there on your board? I though there was a jumper running from questions marks to the step down transformer board. If not, then you are done after you make the last change.

Photo D

I honestly can't remember now. Good luck!

My A3000T PS is now converted to 110V thanks to you and it works 100%!!!

mdivancic, thank you very much for saving me time figuring out what was missing! If I can return the favor, let me know.

Let's see? Got a spare Cyberstorm III laying around anywhere?  :-)

Glad I could help actually. I've had those photos for a couple of years and have not done anything with them. At least now they are here where others can use them!

Thanks also from me.  My new A3000T power supply is also working.  I haven't put it through all it's paces yet but the computer powers up and boots so that is a big first step!!

I wish I had a schematic of the power supply.  I am still trying to figure out exactly what that new wire we put in does because that wire does not exist on my old power supply.  The places where it hooks up that are shown in the above pictures are there but there is no wire.

Dan

I've never been able to find power supply schematics. The official repair documents don't cover power supplies. I would bet that there are several different revisions of power supply for each computer.

I'm not sure what the wire does, as the supply "should" work if the transformer is a 1:1 with a center tap.  The 220v would hook to the center tap, while the 110v hooks across the whole coil. Maybe the jumper has something to do with the NTSC tick signal?

I was getting TICK, but no PG (Power Good). It must have something to do with PG.

Don't know? If you ever come across documents on the power supplies in you travels please share them.
