I thought the PC version also had 640x480 menus?
Anyway the Mac version is exactly like you describe the PC version above.
I think the music and higher resolution graphics with more car and tile graphics makes it just a little better than the Amiga version.
About the shields; in the Mac version the shields regenerate but only if you don't deplete them totally.
