GVP 68030 card Prolems
« on: April 22, 2006, 01:40:09 PM »
Hi All,

I recently aquired an A2000HD system which was fitted with a GVP 68030 Combo card with the Ram Expansion card fitted ontop of it.  (Physically, two cards).

Anyhow, I aquired it becuase it had a "blown power supply".

So, I opened it up and it was covered in dust.  So, I took my air compressor to it to low it all out.

When I was looking the system over after that, i thought I found a major meltdown of the accelerator card.  Now that I am more relaxed, I think it might be less severe than that.

It seems that in the dead center of the accelerator portion of this card (on the back) there was a square of what appears to e a silicon type substance.  Well... I think when using my air compressor, I blew that square of substance off the board and onto the Motherboard.

Does this sound possible?

If so, am I screwed?

Any suggestions for cleaning this up b4 I try the power supply from my other A2000 and hope this system works?

Any advice would be great.  I may be able to provide photos later tonight.

THANKS!

I found photos of my card on amiga.resource.cx

This is a link to the photo of the back of the card and the silicon square I think I blew off... or that melted off on it's own previously:

My card is the A3001 (Series II)

Sounds good to me...

Actually... the big problem is that it didn't just fall off... it came off like a liquid/paste....  almost like it melted... So, there is definetly no re-attaching.  :)  And, of course, I am worried aout getting it off the motheroard before I try to boot up this system for the first time.

So, you think it's just a very soft rubber that a kinda blew apart?

Perhaps my compressor had a bit of water in it... that liquified it?

Well... thanks for all your info guys.

I actually used rubbing alcohol and nearly an entire box of cotton swabs.  After about 2.5 hours, I had removed ALL signs of this rubber thing ever having melted down in my case.

Then...  I adapted an ATX power supply (since my A2000 supply was dead)... and... ya!  WOrking 030 A2000!

Thanks for all the help!
