only os3.5 or higher supports partitions > 2 gb (or was it 4 gb), but be warned, you'll need a lot of ram for validating the partition (>20mb for 4 gb). better skip validation on a standard a1200.

you can use it. if i remember correctly, you can skip the bad block detection, aka validation, and directly format the partitions.
