I have managed to get AROS installed and booted using the latest nightly build (20061223). It does need several reboots at specific points, remember to save changes regularly on 'Unit 0'.

Now i can play with it and possibly write some simple programs with it. Any suggestions?

Download the nightly build ISO
e.g. i386-pc-boot-iso  from
http://aros.sourceforge.net/download.php

You can only boot aros if its a PowerPC based Amiga using Linux but not a 1200.
