A1200 PCMCIA SLOT BEING NAUGHTY..................
« on: July 09, 2005, 07:57:00 PM »
Hi everyone this is just a quick question concerning my pcmcia slot and a lan card.
when the card is in and i do a cold boot it just refuses to boot. even the hard drive wont spin but as soon as i eject the card the hard drive starts and my miggy boots fine.then i have to put the card in.
i've soldered on the capacitor but its just the same.also the screen image is just black so it tells me no hardware faults.
please help as i dont fancy fiddling around the back of my tower which is in my desk, everytime i turn it on.
well so much for being a quick note !!
thanks for reading and i hope someones got some thoughts on this.

thanks for your replys.
the card is 3com megahertz model :-3cce589et
i purchased from ebay with drivers.
the card works fine i've got my lan connected up and transfering etc with babyftp software (no problems at all)
its just from a cold boot, (the a1200 harddrive doesnt do a thing until you eject the card) even a reset is fine ???

Just done a bit of browsing and found this schematic of the pcmcia on 1200. http://amiga.emugaming.com/pcmciascheme.gif
as you can see pin 5 of gayle goes directly to the R715Y so why do some people suggest putting a cap between them ?
Is it to allow for an incorrect track on the mobo or is it to delay the reset signal from Gayle for a few milliseconds.
would i be better of just using a jumper wire straight to pin 58 of the pcmcia slot ?  :-D

Also i have got 2 other 1200 mobo's and one of them has got different numbers on most of the chips (still says ver 2B) and its got some great big black resistors near the power in area instead of the big doughnut any thoughts ?
are these better or worse.
