I am sure that for the majority here the issue of the Amiga barrel style battery is well understood. However, for those just tinkering that may have in their possession an Amiga then spare a moment to check the battery. The basic models to watch for are the 4000D, 3000D, 3000T, 2000, 500Plus. The base 500 didn't come with a battery though some of the expansion cards did so check the trapdoor on the bottom. The 4000T, 600 and 1200 did not have the battery fitted.
I say all this cus having done my once yearly health checks I finally bit the bullet and took the batteries out of all six of my 4000d's. The two 3000d's look fine though maybe next year. I already took the batteries out of the two 3000Ts. The 4000T doesn't have a barrel one thank goodness. I must have spent a summer removing batteries from 500Plus's together with expansion cards a while back. Most had to be repaired. I fear most for the 500Plus's cus they are probably being left end on and the stuff just destroys the whole board.
Only one of my many many 2000s has a battery and that is a 2000HD but the battery was brand new just a couple of years ago so should be OK. That would be a megga search into the vault to find that baby. All the way from Germany.
I know most appreciate the problem but it really is worth mentioning.
PS The most lucky escape I had with a battery was with the Amstrad Mega PC which has the Megadrive built in. Both times they had been stored on their back and both times the battery had just dripped into the cover.
Anyway.. enjoy your collecting and please look after your Amiga. They really will not be making any more.
