I offer my Amiga 500+ (plus version) on ebay:

It is in mint condition, no battery damage or anything else.

Nice machine, though not technically mint. The seals have been broken. The trick with the A500 Plus is to check the battery without breaking the seals...

You need super human powers.

I have mint A500 Plus machines and one this weekend will no longer be mint as sadly I have to break the seal.... :-(

Sadly I am not Superman. All the best with the auction.

Just because it is listed as 'mint', doesn't mean it has to have that intact. Infact id rather it didn't as that would suggest the battery could kill it at any time (if not already).

I class mint as something that has no yellowing (or very little) and with no marks or superficial damage. Genrally looked after.

[EDIT] Though I spot drilled holes and no side panel so not great IMHO.

I was joking but hey...The term mint is what ever the buyer views it as being mint. Mint as with stamps probably means never ever having been used. I have many machines that are mint. If I was buying a mint machine I would expect all of the packaging, receipt, wires cables, plastic bags. And even the polystyrene cheese that holds the modulator. And the seals intact. There are very few machines that come up to the standard mint... This machine is more finely used to use a stamp term. Nothing wrong with it and certainly benefits from having the battery removed.

As I say.. I was joking. If the machine was mint as with many Amigas it would atract true collectors wanting a mint machine. Not something that has been looked after that can be used by their kids for gaming. Mint machines get bagged and stored, trust me.

I don`t collect A500 Plus units cus of the battery problem. Sad that. That's why I say I don`t have superhuman powers to detect the problem. And fellow collectors would know that.

Anyway we quibble over terms... Kinda Ebay waffle that is pretty meaningless.

Yes I rather have a machine with broken seals that is in new condition, than a mediocre /dirty/yellow one with seals intact.  Seals don't mean sh!t unless it's uber rare in the box...  But just like was said, that also means battery damage! No thanks!

Didn`t make sense. You buy something for a reason. If you want a working Amiga that is the way you would buy the machine. If you want a boxed Amiga, thats the way you would buy the machine. You want a mint Amiga that is the way you would buy the Amiga... cus most likely it will be kept boxed mint intact leaky battery and all. Reason. Cus thats what you wanted to buy. Having the mint machine sadly with a 500 PLus comes with this battery problem, thats why I say I have no super human skills to check. However the box, contents, machine are all as they were when struck 'mint' and to a collector who never uses his or her collection thats all that matters when displayed in a glass box. A true mint machine in the literal sense will be in the box with seals unbroken and perfect without even the slightest mark on the packaging. Its a collecting fact and has nothing to do with whether you would prefer a machine with busted seals. It ain`t mint. Has nothing to do with making valued judgement on whether the battery has leaked.

I collect computers. The computer on offer is judged by me as not mint. I do not even give such machines a second glance. I have numerous A500+s that work perfectly out of their boxes. Getting a mint A500+ with seals intact in original box ... now thats a collectors item. And A500+'s are currently worth in working condition £25. Hardly going to make you a mint as a collectors item. One of the most prolific computers made of all time I would guess.

Anyway... we are quibbling over nonsense. The buyer makes the judgement, not the seller.

I usally count a machine as mint if its in overal great shape with no yellowing and I do not care if it have had its seal broken or not, I bought a A600 for 100€ not long ago, it was mint, not opened and the seller gave me the recite also no yellowig on the mouse, amiga or PSU tho the tac-2 joystick had some yellowing and the black tac-2 was in perfect shape. So it was a great deal I did think, but ofc the first thing I did was to break the seals and check its health and put in a CF card :)

Not mint then given there was no box with it. And your point in telling us just how mint you think it was is to brag about destroying the uniqueness of an Amiga just to fit some alien hardware. Each time this is done you just make original machines even more rare. Well done. I'm sure it was 100 toy money well spent.

Not impressed.

PS Just had to say this but why bother with an A600 when an A1200 is a far superior machine. Surely you can track a 1200 down for £50... They are so common and give you far more options for expansion and general usage.

The close up photo of the keyboard clearly shows some discoloration.

From what I saw, though I do struggle with these new Ebay photo presentations, the images on the sale page itself are deliberately lightened or greyed for some reason. I keep repeating this but the buyer determines the value of the equipment and no way will any collector view this as mint. Only those that want to hack and scrap really would be shedding out 100 E plus for something like this....

I have numerous A500Plus' and really they were most common in their day. Nothing special.
