Hi all,

I've finally gotten around to adding an HDD to my A1200. I ripped a 2.5 IDE drive out of an old laptop I had. I got the 44pin cable and hooked it up. I can hear the drive spinning up when I switch on the machine, but nothing else happens. It makes no attempt to read the floppy drive and the screen goes blank. The floppy makes a short noise on power up and while the screen is blank, caps lock still responds. When I remove the hard drive, the machine boots up as normal.

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong here or anything I can try?
Thanks

Did you boot with both mouse buttons down to force a boot from DF0: Then run Workbench pop in the extras disk and check the hard drive. I'm guessing its either not compatible or busted. You may be unlucky cus really you should get the disk insert screen after failing to initiate the hard drive..... You do need to leave the A1200 quite a long time sometimes to get the disk insert screen.

This is going to sound odd, but have you tried booting with the Amiga case open. Don`t electricute yourself. Just a longshot but could be an earthing problem. I doubt it. Normally you would get a flashing green LED.
