KCS Power PC Board not working
« on: December 14, 2013, 08:11:20 PM »
I tried one of these boards with a Zorro II adapter in my Amiga 3000:
.
After starting, the emulator gets as far as starting to test the memory on the board. The Amiga then freezes.
I use version 4.75 of the software.

Also the program to create a harddisk gurus immedately after starting.

The memory of the board (1 meg) is added tot the Amiga after boot.

After 20+ years the battery will be empty, so I removed it. The manual states:
"5.2 Changing batteries
The following is not applicable to the AMIGA 500 +, as the KCS POWER PC BOARD
does not contain a battery for that computer type. Theoretically the life of the batteries
that feed the hardware clock is 8 to 12 years. After this period, or sooner if the battery is
empty, it has to be replaced. The battery ensures that a number of important settings for
the KCS POWER PC BOARD are stored, even after switching off your AMIGA. Without
the battery, or with an empty battery, the KCS POWER PC BOARD will not function.
But also if the battery is shortcircuited or removed briefly, the KCS POWER PC BOARD
will no longer function, as the fore-mentioned settings will be lost. After installing a new
battery the KCS POWER PC BOARD will still not function. First the settings must be
transferred again to the KCS POWER PC BOARD."

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for looking into this Ian.

Yes, I ran the preferences program from my harddisk.

The program that freezes the Amiga is a utility to create a PC-harddisk from an Amiga partition. I can start the program but it freezes the Amiga as soon as I try to save the choices (A3000 SCSI and SCSI-ID).

I have to dig up an A500 from the cabinet, but I will try that tomorrow.

That's right Ian :)

I managed to find the A500 quickly and made a Power PC Board-floppy.
In the A500 the board works flawlessly. :drink:
There is no battery on the board.

Will try later in the A3000 with caches off. The manual does not mention this and states that accelerators will be detected automatically.

Thanks again.
