X-Surf not recognized/recognized but not working
« on: May 04, 2006, 08:47:10 AM »
I saw some threads on this subject on AO but no solutions yet.

I cannot get my X-Surf card to work in my A4000D. The card works in my A2000 though. Sometimes the X-Surf is not recognized in the early startup menu. Sometimes it is. But even if ShowConfig reports the board with the right specs, I get an error on trying to open de x-surf.device.
A4000D specs: Cyberstorm MK II 060 with CyberSCSI, Cybervision 64/3D and X-Surf. No IDE disks. 3.1 ROM's and OS3.9.

Any hints would be very welcome!

@redrumloa: I use AmiTCP. I don't believe that has anything to do with the problem. The hardware-interface is not recognized.
Error message from AmiTCP when running startnet is:
OpenDevice: Device or unit failed to open
Interface x-surf not found!
Interface x-surf configuration failed!
Stopping AmiTCP

Thanks anyway for thinking with me!

@redrumloa: to do you a favor I installed Miami. Running MiamiInit responds with:

Miami is unable to open
device 'Devs:networks/X-surf.device' unit 0.
The device might be in use.
Error 0.

@Framiga: The filename was X-surf.device. Changed to lower case: no difference.

@Framiga: I do not have xsurftest. Cannot find it on the net either. Bought this card secondhand w/o software. If someone could supply it, I would be grateful.

@Framiga: Thanks!
Running the proggie gives:
Blabla and then
Testing 16bit memory...false! Then a lot of figures with some differences between written and reading.

After a cold boot the program did not even find the RTL8019. Emailed Jens. Will post back here.
Thanks!

Guess what...
While mailing with Jens he asked a picture of the chip on his card. So I once again removed it from my Amiga. Took the picture, put the card back, switched on the A4000:IT WORKED! Rebooted. Worked. Switch off an on: still worked.
Jens thinks that it probably was a contact problem then.
I will leave it there and do not touch it again!

The X-surf had worked OK for a long time, but about a year ago it stopped working again. So I bought an X-surf-100 and everything is OK in the A4000.
I also have an A3000 and I thought, why not try the broken X-surf in there? It used to work in an A2000.
And it works flawlessly. So the problem is definitely not in the X-surf, but in the combination with an A4000D/Cyberstorm 060.
