Bridgeboard questions
« on: July 10, 2005, 07:55:52 AM »
I have an A2000 with an A2088 bridgeboard including a 5 1/4" floppy drive.
I managed it to work but I cannot read any drive. The drive light on the 5 1/4 floppy is always on. Is that correct? An external 3 1/2" disk drive connected to the external connector on the bridgeboard fails also. The light on that drive lights as if it were looking for the OS.
Besides that it is extremely slow. Keystrokes come 5 to 10 seconds later. Is that normal?

Are you using a original floppy cable? or from any old pc? a have this borad too, but havent cable, so im wonderin if i can use floppy cable from any 386 crap.

can you post a photo of this cable?

Sorry, I saw your posting just now. I have the original floppy cable. The 5,25 inch drive seems to work, but since I've got no MS-DOS on those floppies I can't use it. I tried an Amiga floppy on the external connector. It does not work. It also does not work disconnecting the internal floppy and an Amiga drive at the external BB connector.
I have no old PC XT 3,5 inch floppy drive. I guess that's the one you need.
The cable has at the floppy side an ISA-like (but smaller) connector. If you still need it I can take a picture of the cable. Let me know.

I've got it up and running. But I decided to remove the bridgeboard because:
1. The A2088 is slower than PCTask.
2. You cannot use the internal drives. With PCTask you can.
3. I have no floppies for the internal 5,25" A-drive to work with.
3. An external drive attached to the BB does not work. However it should act as the B-drive.

[edit]
Of course this may not be true for other BB's.
