Ah, Ambermoon. One of the best ever. Too bad I never got
Amberstar to work on the A4000.
Still, Dungeon Master is one of the all time best "first person games"
(Chaos Strikes back was too difficult to map
in my opinion). The custom magic/experience system is
excellent, not like the AD&D level crap. Followed closely by
Black Crypt which was a lot more technically advanced but
lacked some of the DM feel.
Eye of the Beholder 1&2 (number 2 in particular) and
Dungeon Master 2 were also excellent in their way, but not
even near the leading pack.
I don't know if Hired Guns can be classified as a RPG
(probably not), but you sure learn to know your characters
through the long campaign at it involves plenty of strategy
and inventory-planning similar to RPG:s.
