sure it can, just depends of workbench/filesystem version. Im using 40gb barracuda ide drive thru acard thingy (OS 3.9). With 3.1 you will be stuck at <4GB.
too lazy to use shift key properly...

im using onboard scsi contreoller, which is connected to a-card scsi-ide bridge, which is connected to ide drive, so onboard controller sure can handle it, no worries


im using scsi-ide bridge because scsi drives are small (cant find any cheap 40gb scsi drive here ),  also they are LOUD as hell. barracuda ata IV is sooo quiet
too lazy to use shift key properly...
