But all a buyer really needs from Amiga/Eyetech/Hyperion is the motherboard and a CDROM with the OS on it. Even harddrives vary a lot in terms of size, performance, etc., so buyers want to have a choice here too. Yes, this is why standards are a good thing -- customer choice. It isn't so much that people don't trust dealers, just that they want to choose components for themselves. This is why you start out with a bare motherboard.
It's amazing and sad how these AI "clarifications" raise as many question as they answer.
