It's already been said but you should buy a decent Plasma that doesn't screw up 4:3 SDTV pictures??

When in 4:3 mode using SVideo input, the CD32 screens look great on a Panasonic 42" Plasma.

Try turning down the sharpness filter.

Are you using SVideo or composite?

I dont think "performance" is the right word. Having the correct aspect ratio usually helps with SDTV, the stretching process shows up problems with low quality TV scalers/filters.

A PAL CD32 can be modified to output RGB for SCART easily.
