EasyNet Software Observations....
« on: October 04, 2013, 03:40:11 PM »
What is the purpose of the "Router Default Presets" in the "Network Config"? The choices being "Netgear/Dlink, Belkin, Linksys, Conexant & User Defined", seem to be nothing more than a limit of 5 network configurations. Or, is there some hard coded values in these choices that relate to the specific name of the router in each of the 5 choices? The pre-configured network values associated with each choice are more than likely not going to get you on your network. (check 'em out and you'll see what I mean). This will surely confuse a newbie with no network experience (I personally have years and years of network experience) and start a flurry of questions on the Amiga sites related to nothing more than the person's router values.

So, I have a suggestion... Instead of these pre-configured "Router Default Presets" wouldn't it make more sense for the user to be able to save as many network configs as the user wishes and be able to name each one as the user wishes? i.e., "Home or MyAmigaUG, or Work, etc....  (an unlimited amount) - (Also assuming there is no hard coded value in the 5 "Router Default Presets"). This would allow a user to simply choose from as many saved network configs as created and saved (rather than cycling thru the limited 5 "Router Default Presets" before pressing the "Online" button. Assuring the user that the software will certainly use any of the users saved configurations and connect to the users named router values everytime.

Another observation is, currently in the software I can change the values of the "Router Default Presets" which have predetermined names and save it (I assume as the default netwok logon). This doesn't always seem to work correctly, most notably, when using my wireless card with the EasyNet software. I always have to go rescan my router before the wireless card will obtain an IP address even though I'm using a config I saved as the default setup.

Anyhoo, just a suggestion.... any thoughts?

I'm logged on! After 8 hours of not being able to log on I have kinda lost my train of thought on this... But adding a button below (or above) the "Router Default Presets" that might say "Save Custom Network" would be great! Let me save as many as I want and give me a box that let's me "name" the custom network settings. Add a menu item that let's me choose one of my saved "custom networks" before I hit the "Online" button. Then I know exactly what network I'll be logging on to. Also display the saved network settings in the value boxes once I've chosen a saved network. I hit "OK" and then "Online". That would be awesome!I think this would allow any veteran Amiga user to help a newbie efortlessly by comparing a "saved" network against the person's router values! Easy Peasy!I would also like to volunteer to be a beta tester for any of this! Thanks for listening AmigaKit! You're the best!
