I assume from what you are saying when you remove the Spider the system boots up OK from hard drive.
A couple of things spring to mind : firstly make sure the Spider is firmly in the PCI slot and secondly it is recommended the Spider is installed in the lowest slot.
If that cures the problem to install the software you need to install the drivers from the MMCD, install the Posiden stack from
www.platon42.de, copy the spider.device on the supplied CDROM and then run some cli commands.
Hope this cures the problem.
Also make sure you have MUI installed on your system as Posiden won't run without it !
