Does anybody here use any Yamaha music hardware powered by the KPA3 power supply?

My tone generator has started turning off for no particular reason. If I leave it off for a while I can turn it on again ok, but then after an hour or two it will go again.

The tone generator itself shows no sign of overheating - this even happens when it is idle.

So I am wondering if its the tone gen or the power supply thats going awry. The little PSU does get quite warm, but no more than most transformers...

Any other amiga musicians (and I use the term 'musician' loosely when describing myself) using stuff powered by KPA3 have similar problems?

My band once had a Yamaha FM Tone generator box... other than I though it sounds like poo, it was very tempermental somtimes switching patches for no reason so It found it's way to the bin (Closely followed by the DX7 we had).

Well, this one is a fully fledged 32-part multitimbral XG box using both AWM2 and VL synthesis, so it sounds just fine :-P

However, there is definately somnething worrying about this latest trend'..

 Ahhhh, modern kit... I have heard about that...

Sorry I can't really help you... I have recently got rid of most of my kit and replaced it with a 3Ghz Laptop... which I must be honest is actually much better than any kit I could buy now :-)

Don't tell me we almost agreed again!!!! :-o :-D

Well, With an 24bit Sound card, Reason 2.5, OctaMED 1.5, Logic 5.1 Platinum and Cool Edit all running at the same time, and the Laptop MIDI'd up to 4 keyboards (2 per keyboard player)... I really don't find myself missing dedicated hardware. Especially live, I remember having to spend an hour during sound checks tracing tens of MIDI cables just to try and find the one box that had for some reason died...
Having one box to do it all makes finding faults much quicker

That said, I'm not selling my Roland W-30... because it totally rocks!!! :-D
